Just four months after moving to its new Meeting space at the Edgewater Presbyterian Church building, Northside Friends has sized up to even larger quarters for its Monthly Meeting for Worship, effective November 2. Conveniently, this new space is just down the hall from our first space at the site, but measures 120 sq. ft. larger, allowing more elbow room for those attending Meeting.
Northside Friends Meeting relocated to the Edgewater Presbyterian building in July 2025, after 15 months of being hosted by Chicago Friends School, which also relocated following the sale of the property to developers.
The Edgewater Presbyterian building was constructed in 1929 as a community center. Today, in addition to Northside Friends, the four-story stone edifice is home for partner organizations serving needs of area residents, as well as a home for creatives and theater companies.
The newest Northside Meeting space had a former life as the den for the Presbyterian Boy scout troup, and features a fireplace (noon-working) with mantel, and faux log cabin wall surfaces - now painted over in white. Like the previous Northside Meeting room down the hall, it has clear leaded glass windows, giving a natural brightness perfect for Quaker worship. The move of furniture, books and literature was coordinated by a specially formed task group overseen by the House Committee, while the Tech Committee managed the relocation of video and sound equipment used to support the hybrid (on-line and in-person) format of Meeting for Worship.
Since arriving at the Edgewater Presbyterian church building, House Committee has installed permanent signage on the exterior of the building’s Kenmore Ave. entrance, identifying the weekly Quaker Meeting for Worship at 10 am each Sunday. The Kenmore Ave. entrance features a permanent wheelchair ramp, a vestibule for welcoming Meeting attenders, and stairs leading directly up to the Meeting room.
