Northside Friends Meeting Mission Statement on Anti-Racism

Vision Statement

Believing there is that of Spirit in everyone, we aspire to become a beloved and welcoming community that recognizes and decries all manifestations of racism and white supremacy within ourselves, the institutional culture of our monthly meeting, and the wider world of Quakers. We strive to work for justice through sustained efforts to heal and reconcile those injured by racism, thus transforming ourselves and our Quaker community into a living embodiment of our Testimonies.

Mission Statement

Being seekers of the Truth, we will enact our vision through prayerful, long-term, collective self-examination, accountability, and action within all dimensions of the culture of Northside Friends and its institutional life.

We will work toward accountability by recognizing, naming, interrupting and dismantling manifestations of white supremacy within ourselves and our interpersonal and community interactions in Northside Friends Meeting. We will collaborate with other faith communities and organizations that share a similar vision regarding systemic white supremacy culture.

We commit ourselves to the values of a transforming institution: **

·         transparent communication and decision-making instead of secrecy;
·         both/and thinking instead of either/or thinking;
·         abundant worldview instead of scarcity mentality;
·         collaboration and cooperation instead of competitive individualism.

Recognizing that Friends are in many different places in their personal, interpersonal, and institutional awareness of white supremacy culture, we will continue to offer support, education and training to develop an intersectional understanding of systemic racism.

Anti-Racism Resource List

The Committee for Ministry on Racism has compiled an Anti-Racism Resource List, including books, films, podcasts, etc. Every offering on this list has been read and recommended by a member of the Committee. The general criterion for inclusion on this list is that we feel the piece will assist Friends on their antiracism journey.
