'Whose Land Is It?' Rick Williams - Toward Right Relationship with Native Peoples

“Whose Land Is It?” is a talk by Rick Williams, who is Oglala Lakota/Cheyenne and the President of People of the Sacred Land. Presented virtually, it is part of Friends Peace Teams initiative, Toward Right Relationship with Native Peoples. Register here to receive the Zoom link.

Rick Williams is a dynamic speaker and national spokesman on many hot-button issues for Native peoples. He will share findings of a People of the Sacred Land research project that documents the economic impacts of treaty violations and the removal of tribes from Colorado. This ground-breaking report offers a template so that similar studies can be conducted throughout the country. Spoiler alert: the economic losses just to tribes removed from Colorado mount into the trillions. Whose land are you living on? At what cost to Native peoples? What could reparations look like? What reparative steps are faith communities and other non-Native groups already taking?

Rick is leading another ground-breaking effort to establish an Embassy in Colorado for the tribes that were forcibly and illegally removed from the state and an adjoining Cultural Center. Join us to hear from this visionary leader whose feet are planted firmly on the sacred land.
