Second Hour: View the Documentary Film on Bayard Rustin

Friends are invited to join Ministry on Racism for a Second Hour screening of the film, “Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin” after the rise of Meeting for Worship on April 26.

Bayard Rustin, a Quaker activist, was the principal organizer for the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom and served as a member of AFSC's task force that wrote "Speak Truth to Power: A Quaker Search for an Alternative to Violence" (1955). We hope Friends can join us to learn about Rustin’s life.

Bayard Rustin, the architect of 1963’s momentous March on Washington, challenged authority and never apologized for who he was, but came to be forgotten despite making history. Appearing in footage and interviews are Rustin, A.J. Muste, David McReynolds, Bob Dylan, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Stokely Carmichael, Lyndon B. Johnson and Robert F. Kennedy. The film premiered in 2003 at the Sundance Film Festival.
