What is “The Gathered Meeting”? Adult Spiritual Formation Committee is hosting a Second Hour in conjunction with Ministry of Worship on the concept of "The Gathered Meeting" among Friends. We think it is an apt follow-up to the Second Hour that Ministry of Worship held a couple of weeks ago on "Expectant Waiting."
We plan to start around 12:15 pm. Ministry of Worship will begin by offering an introduction to some Quaker views on the concept. After this, ASF will guide us in a period of worship-sharing on the following queries:
Initial reflection:
● What Gathered Meetings have you experienced?
Follow up reflections:
● What comes in the way of a Gathered Meeting? Can a Meeting be gathered for some people and not for others? Does Meeting need to be Gathered every time?
For those who would like to do some preparatory reading regarding this contemplative topic in Friends history, follow the link below to an essay by Thomas Kelly, 20th Century Quaker mystic.
