Second Hour - Nominating Committee Listening Session

Nominating Committee Second Hour will be a Listening Session. Nominating Committee is currently putting together the list of all officers and committees for Northside Friends Meeting. A proposed “nominating slate” will be presented at Summer Meeting for Business on 8/17 so it can be held for seasoning and ready for approval in September, with the new officers and committees beginning in October, the start of Northside’s fiscal year.

During our conversations with individual Friends as part of this process, Nominating Committee heard a multitude of pressing social concerns and leadings toward responsive action. Northside’s Mission and Vision Statement on Anti-Racism is broad and intersectional, but many Friends do not see space for their concerns in the scope of the current Ministry on Racism committee.

Nominating Committee has discerned that there is a deep desire for Friends to work together on the challenges and causes that touch us as individuals and as a community. At present, this need is not fully being met.

Our Second Hour on July 20th will be a listening session in which we will ask the Meeting to reflect on the following queries:

What is the current state of social witness at Northside? How is Meeting addressing social concerns in an effective and clear way? Where is it falling short?

Nominating’s role is to make sure that the structure of Meeting supports the ministers (all of us!) and ministry of the meeting. If we make changes, what could they be?
