Quaker 101: Friends for 350 Years

Beginning November 23, Northside Friends Meeting in Chicago launched an orientation to a study series of Quaker beliefs and practice. Based on Howard Brinton's "Friends for 350 Years," the first formal study session Quakers Friends For 350 Years Northside Friends Chicagotakes place Monday evening, December 8 at 7:00 p.m. Study will begin with a look at the Introduction and Chapter 1. If you missed the orientation group, but are interested in participating, contact Charley Earp to register and receive directions to the Dec. 8 study group location. Originally published in 1952 as "Friends for 300 Years", this book is considered a modern Quaker classic. Brinton does more than just offer history, he interprets Quakerism as a mystical and ethical society. December 8 will be the first in a series of twice-monthly evening meetings where the book's themes will be discussed. Participants don't have to commit to the entire program. Everyone in Meeting is being encouraged to read the book and discuss it informally amongst ourselves. You can obtain a copy of the book at FGC Bookstore or at  Amazon.com .
